Big big week. Classes are up and running and they're wild! My professor Jorge is so crazy, but in such a good way. Our classes are completely discussion based, so we just rant ecology and infrastructure and our carbon footprints. Tropical marine biology is just absolutely killer. We got to talk about the deep ocean this past week. And man, that stuff is freaky. There are apparently super hot vents at the bottom of the ocean that have lava shrimp living around them and massive worms.
Monday was rough ngl. We had to do Visa stuff in San José. And I gotta say. I'm not a fan of that city. It's big, its loud, and the vendors are quite pushy. But, I still enjoyed the experience of being in the big open market. It gave me Thailand vibes.
Thursday, our morning class got cancelled, so we hiked around the woods behind campus. Isaac lied when he said it was easy to get there. We had to climb the freaking mountain behind the school. Very misleading. We wanted to find monkeys, but alas. They must've been sleeping through the heat of the morning.
The weekend was the most fun part though. We went to Puntarenas beach. It was beautifulllll. The water wasn't clear or anything, because the beach was brown. But with the mountains surrounding everything, and the palm trees (with actual coconuts on them). It was gorgeous.
The Airbnb we rented was so funny. It was little apartment above some street in Chacarita (which was a smaller barro a little ways out of the town). We all stayed in the same room haha. I slept on the floor the second night (which was an upgrade from sharing a bed with 2 other people the first night). There were three beds: the bunk bed had two people, the lower bunk had three (and then two), and the big bed had three. We made the boys sleep on the big bed together and it was so funny. They cuddled. But the room was air conditioned, and we realized that was the first air conditioned room we had been in in two weeks. But the airbnb was so cute, and we got to cook breakfast and it was just in all honestly a Vibe.
Puntarenas itself was awesome. It was HOT. We stayed applying sunscreen. But we had some delicious food. The first night we ended up in some restaurant (unplanned), and had absolutely delicious seafood and rice. I had tentacles and those things were CRIPSY. After we even got some ice cream. We were planning on taking the bus back to the airbnb, but some mom in the ice cream place said "It is NOT safe for you on the bus. Take a taxi" So of course, we listened to the mom. I also got to have this drink/ ice cream thing call a Churchill. It had SO much condensed milk in it. My arteries were crying, but my stomach was so happy.
The second night we went to Isla de Coco, which was this conglomerate of food trucks at the end of the peninsula. Goodness gracious, the end of the peninsula was so beautiful. We saw the sunset over the mountains in the bay. And honestly, I hope we go back. Isla de Coco was such a vibe too. Whoever cooked my shrimp quesadilla deserves a big ol smooch, because that thing was delectable. The sangria I got from the food trunk bar thing was sweet and refreshing too.
But yeah, hanging out at the beach was such a good time. I love the peeps I went with and I think they're going to be the adventure buddies of this semester. So, be ready to hear more about Jenna, Dylann, Jeff, Isaac, Erin, Maleah, and Caleb.
Alrighty, Peace.
